Why payday loans no longer need a fax
A decade ago, getting a payday loan often meant faxing pay stubs, a void cheque and a photocopy of your ID, then waiting for someone to review them by hand. That step alone could add a day. Faxless payday loans replace every one of those documents with a secure digital check that takes minutes.
Going faxless isn't just faster. Digital verification is harder to fake than a faxed pay stub, which is part of why lenders can make decisions quickly without a hard credit check.
What replaces each document
| What used to be faxed | What happens now | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Recent pay stubs | Read-only bank verification shows your deposits | 2 to 3 minutes |
| Void cheque | Account details confirmed during verification | Included |
| Photocopy of ID | Photo of your ID taken with your phone | 1 minute |
| Signed paper agreement | Legally binding e-signature | 1 to 2 minutes |
How instant bank verification works
Instant bank verification (IBV) uses a secure third-party service to let the lender see a read-only snapshot of your account, usually the last 60 to 90 days of transactions. You log in to your own bank through the verification screen, the same way you would in your banking app.
- It's read-only. Nobody can move money, pay bills or change anything in your account.
- Your password isn't shared with the lender or with Options Credit.
- It's encrypted with the same standards banks use for online banking.
- It's a one-time snapshot. The lender doesn't get ongoing access to your account.
If you'd rather not connect your bank
That's a reasonable choice. Many lenders will accept recent bank statements downloaded as PDFs from your online banking and uploaded to your application. It's still faxless, it just takes a bit longer because someone reviews the statements manually. Ask your lender which option it offers.
